Format of Inductive Bible Study
After previously, we learned about how to study bible inductively. Now,
in this part we will learn the format of Inductive Bible Study. In the
end of this article, you can download the printable cheat sheet. The
printable cheat sheet will make this format looks easier and simpler.
Start with facts that we can find in the story, use seven questions to find facts. Try to keep investigating the text:
a.Who?
Who were the characters in the story? What do we know about each character? How were the relationships among the characters?
b. Where?
Find the location, whether the place had important meaning in the story, etc.
c. When?
When was the story happening? Was there something important about the time when the incident occurred?
d. What?
What was the main conflict/problem in the story?
e. How?
How was the story done?
f. Why?
Were there certain reasons why the story occurred?
g. So?
What was the result?
Find any information that can add our understanding on facts that we have got from open facts. We could find the hidden facts from parallel passages, previous passages, following passages even from footnotes. Reading different versions of translations also could help.
Ask as many questions you can especially for facts that are not clear.
Collect the data you have got and conclude what the writer actually wanted to say to his initial readers. Find spiritual meaning from the conclusions.
From the interpretations, write down general truth that can be applied today.
